Job Description:
The Principal Systems Engineer will lead system design, integration, verification and validation of complex electro-mechanical medical devices to deliver best-in-class robotic-assisted orthopedic solutions. Reporting to the Sr Director of Platform Development, the Principal Systems Engineer will work in close collaboration with Program Management, Quality Assurance and Marketing & Operations to deliver the product development roadmap and improve quality, clinical value, OR efficiency, and customer satisfaction for StrykerMAKO customers.

Responsibilities:
•The Principal Systems Engineer organizes, plans, and leads the development, testing and release of multi-disciplinary systems, technologies and feasibility efforts including robotic systems, embedded software, electronics, mechanisms, cutting systems and surgical navigation systems.
•Develops System Level Architecture: Identifies Top level constraints; Identifies appropriate technologies; Leads the Requirements management processes; Develops Schedules and Resource needs; Leads Risk Analysis and mitigation strategies; Designs System fault detection and recovery strategies.
•Develops Project Schedules and tracks project to successful completion.
•Develops System Requirements and Specifications from Customer Requirements and regulatory standards.
•Develops System Budgets: Performance Budgets, Error Budgets, and Cost Budgets;
•Leads the creation of System, Module and Sub-module test requirements and acceptance criteria.
•Leads Verification and Validation Testing to Customer, System, Module and Sub-Module Requirements
•Leads & attends design reviews and checks systems documentation from other team members
•Provide status updates on projects to Program Managers.
•Provides mentorship to other employees in areas of expertise.
•Participates as required in R&D departmental policies and procedure updates.
•Travel as necessary for project design meetings, support of sales and marketing activities, and professional meetings. Moderate Travel is required for this role.

Job Requirements:

Qualifications:
•Master’s degree in Systems Engineering (or Electrical, Mechanical, Biomedical) with a minimum of 7+ years technical experience in the design of electromechanical systems involving precision mechanisms.
•Strong communication (verbal and written), interpersonal and relationship-building skills with surgeons, internal customers, and team members.
•Proven ability to multitask and follow-through, working with and tracking multiple efforts on the team.
•The ability to apply standard engineering principals to resolve difficult problems from the concept phase to final design and commercial release.
•Good negotiation, conflict management, and customer service skills
•Must maintain necessary credentials for attending surgery cases and/or cadaver labs.
