Job Description:

OHIO University is seeking a qualified applicant for Budget Analyst II within the VPFA Business Service Center department.

Established in 1804, OHIO University is the oldest public institution of higher learning in the state of Ohio and the first in the Northwest Territory. Located in the scenic Appalachian foothills, its classic residential campus in Athens, Ohio, is one of the most attractive in the nation.

This position supports the mission of the VPFA Business Service Center by ensuring the accuracy and transparency of accounting processes and financial statements. Collaborates with VPFA Budget & Accounting Manager to support multi-year planning, budgeting, forecasting and problem solving within planning units.
 Duties include:
 1. Participates in efforts to improve services/processes/reporting, reduce costs, and reduce cycle times of business processes. Applies functional and technical expertise to develop reporting requirements. Assists in the development of rate structures and ensures compliance with accounting standards and University policies. Manages departmental service level agreements and ensures compliance. Maintains internal cost allocation structure and uses data to allocate costs to internal departments to better reflect the expenses of VPFA departments.
 2. Compiles data, analyses, and works with departments in the development of their budgets. Measures actual performance versus budget and prepares forecasts for department managers. Monitors expenditures and payroll distributions to ensure actuals are recorded in agreement with budget.
 3. Reviews and prepares monthly/quarterly/annual accounting transactions and accruals. Maintains focus on continuous process improvement and proper chart of account usage. Creates and reviews financial statements, performs financial analyses and makes recommendations from the data. Conducts on-going account reconciliations, verifying that transactions are properly recorded in the General Ledger.
 4. Assists and reviews accounting transactions such as billing through work order and VPFA subsystems as well as bill payment through Bobcat Buy done by other Service Center staff members. Makes determinations on services to be common good services or paid services and completes billings for paid services.

This position may supervise students or provide oversight to entry-level staff.

Job Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting or related degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in the Finance/Accounting Field.
• Experience in spreadsheet and database analytical tools.
