Position Title:           Manufacturing Engineer

Summary (Scope of Job):
 
  • Primary purpose of the job is to provide Manufacturing Engineering support to Production and R&D activities.  This job contributes to the organization by providing design, build and implementation expertise to create, debug and improve fixtures, jigs, assembly and test equipment in compliance with domestic and international regulatory requirements.  Equipment complexity ranges from manual fixtures and jigs to semi-automatic and fully automatic high speed assembly machines.
 
Major Responsibilities:
 
1. Leads in the specification, design, development, construction or modification of a wide variety of assembly equipment.  Must be able to work effectively on electrical, mechanical and/or software related issues associated with assembly equipment.
2. Troubleshoot and implement solutions to aid in the assembly of the product.  Typical solutions require changes to assembly equipment and/or the modification of part/mold design and inspection criteria to improve the quality, reproducibility, efficiency, or safety of the manufacturing process.
3. Document assembly and test equipment including Drawings; Specifications; Installation, Operating and Process Qualifications (IQ/OQ/PQ).
4. Create, modify and implement operating procedures, including necessary training and verification activities.
5. Participate in the preparation of test protocols to challenge product/machine performance against intended specifications.
6. Interface with and select suitable vendors for the supply of machinery components.
7. Develop test methods and fixtures to prove functionality of assigned
8. Identify and coordinate activities with outside suppliers and consultants as required
9. Prepare overall project proposal including cost estimates and project schedule for designated projects.  Defines, assigns priority and schedules tasks to provide timely solutions to achieve desired results.
10. Selects appropriate test methods and analyzes test data to challenge the effectiveness of assembly equipment and processes.
11. Works with and delegates tasks to technicians and Interns within the department.
12. Involved with resolving internal and external (Customer or Supplier) issues related to manufacturability and performance of the finished devices.
 
Educational Requirements:         Seven to twelve years of experience with an Associate’s Degree, or four to six years of experience with a Bachelor’s Degree.
 
Experience Requirements:           A minimum of five years of medical device design and development experience, preferable with fluid / drug delivery devices
 
Knowledge and Skills:                      Knowledgeable in assembly and test equipment development activities in a regulated environment.  Familiar with requirements for medical device manufacturing assembly and test methods. Possess a good balance of technical expertise and analytical thinking. Competent with Solid Modeling (preferable SolidWorks), spreadsheet and statistical analysis software (e.g. Minitab) packages.
