Position Summary:

The Maintenance Supervisor at OPW's Midland Manufacturing (www.midlandmfg.com) is responsible for managing and coordinating all facility maintenance projects to ensure safety, quality, productivity, site improvements, machine repair, implementation of new equipment, and tooling systems throughout the plant are managed effectively and utilized to maximize efficiency. He/she assures that safety, quality, delivery, and cost metrics are met for department and facility, while continuously trying to improve them through the use of lean techniques. He/she also works with shop floor supervisors, manufacturing engineering, purchasing, quality, and engineering to ensure all necessary projects and production requirements are met.  

In addition to facility maintenance, this position will be responsible to help track and implement new CNC tooling, improve manufacturing processes, and work with production team to improve productivity in order to meet growing business demands.  The Maintenance Supervisor must also be a leader and coach who will work with his/her direct reports to develop a high performance work team. This is a key requirement to successfully implementing an effective culture of learning and development on the shop floor.

Essential Functions:

  • Oversee the maintenance of Midland Manufacturing’s buildings and equipment, including plant security and protection. Maintain a preventative maintenance program for the entire facility. Maintain the project lists, maintenance logs, preventative maintenance programs and related shop records.
  • Manage and maintain proper maintenance and tooling inventory levels to support business needs.
  • Determine maintenance requirements for the production machinery and equipment; diagnose and repair malfunctions of machinery. Perform installation of machinery or utilities when required.
  • Responsible for the design and establishment of all specifications required in the purchase of all materials and services utilized in the connection with the maintenance or alteration of the facility. Develop budgets for equipment parts, maintenance supplies, machines, and general building repairs.
  • Coordinate and negotiate with all third party contractors in the provision of maintenance, services, construction, and special projects. Ensure the completion of all work in accordance with established project and company specifications.
  • Ensure all safety standards are met and followed for all fixtures and equipment that is made or purchased and that all maintenance activities are performed in a manner that follows safety procedures (i.e. lockout tag out, etc.).
  • Supervise the application of Midland policies to maintenance team. Supervise direct reports to ensure safety, quality, delivery, and cost objectives are met daily.  Teach, coach, and develop maintenance talent within the organization.
  • Interact with internal customers to understand maintenance and improvement needs of the business and provide solutions. Work cross-functionally with HR, QC, Engineering, Production, and Finance, as required.
  • Understand the lean philosophy, tools, and techniques and regularly apply them.  Teach to direct reports and to employees throughout the organization. Strive to continuously improve on safety, quality, delivery, and cost metrics. Work hands-on with business units to help make improvements in these areas.
  • Accountable for developing and monitoring processes and practices necessary for legal and ethical compliance in assigned area. Accountable for Sarbanes-Oxley compliance in assigned area.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by management team.
  • Occasional travel may be required.


Required Skills
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, utilizing team-oriented management styles and lean learning techniques.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.  At times, may be required to operate shop equipment such as: assembly presses, manual machines and CNC machines, and basic hand tools.
  • Demonstrated skills in successful project management.  Must be process oriented with strong attention to detail.  Ability to facilitate activities necessary from a project’s inception to a project’s completion.
  • Ability to effectively problem-solve using a systematic approach.  Hands on, self-starter who is able to take ownership and make sound decisions for the best interest of the business.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.  Ability to read, write, verbalize, and comprehend instruction at the highest levels in the English language.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers. Strong conflict resolution skills.
  • Proficient in computer skills.  Working knowledge of commonly used business software products such as spreadsheets, word processing, and database management.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and group situations.
  • Must have mathematical skills equivalent to those required under degree requirements.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA standards and related safety requirements. 
  • Position may require lifting up to 50 pounds.

Required Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in mechanical engineering or mechanical engineering technology.
  • Three to five years manufacturing engineering, project engineering, and/or maintenance supervision experience
  • Two to five years of supervisory and/or management experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably automotive.
