Job Description:

PURPOSE OF POSITION:  Working to assist OMG providers in providing health care at OMG clinic locations. The MA serves the patient and the provider by gathering and maintaining the necessary medical information in a cheerful, friendly, personable manner; providing quality patient care and helping to establish rapport between the physician and patient.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 100 pounds. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours. Requires exposure to communicable diseases and fluids.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:  Although a safety first work environment employees in the position have potential exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:   (This may not include all of the duties assigned).

  1. Ability to influence others through guidance, knowledge, work ethic and teamwork.
  2. Escort patients to exam room and document patient’s chief complaints.
  3. Prepare patients for examination and treatment. 
  4. Accurately obtain and record patient histories and vital signs.
  5. Prepare exam rooms and instruments for examination and/or testing.
  6. Assist with patient exams, procedures and collection of specimens as assigned.
  7. Retrieve laboratory and radiology test results.
  8. Assist provider in maintaining accuracy in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
  9. Stock supplies.
  10. Use equipment appropriately and safely.
  11. Give injections and apply splints and dressing.
  12. Understand and interpret current immunization schedule. Administer immunizations safely and accurately and document accurately into the EMR.
  13. Assist physicians in preparing for minor surgeries.
  14. Respond to and refer incoming telephone calls. 
  15. Instruct patients and family regarding medications and treatment per Physician instructions.
  16. Assist in the referral process.
  17. Maintain patient confidentiality. Follow HIPAA guidelines.
  18. Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:

Demonstrates competency in all areas represented on the MA Curriculum Check List. Knowledge of medical practice and care to assist in providing patient care. Knowledge of examination, diagnostic and treatment room procedures. Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment. Ability to assist in a variety of treatments and medications as directed. Skill in taking vital signs. Skill in maintaining medical records and recording test results. Assist in maintaining department quality assurance. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public. Ability to maintain quality control standards. Ability to remain calm and effective in emergency situations. Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with physicians, patients and co-workers. Must be flexible and a quick learner. Ability to multi-task and float to any position.

Education:                      Equivalent of a high school diploma.

Experience:                    2-3 years of relevant experience.

Certification/License:  Certification from the AAMA, NCCT or RMA required within 60 days of hire. Healthcare provider level CPR certification required.
